Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy Announce R.E.M. ‘Lifes Rich Pageant’ Tribute Tour

Actor Michael Shannon and indie veteran Jason Narducy are launching a 22-date U.S. tribute tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.’s fourth studio album, Lifes Rich Pageant. Running from February 11 to March 16 next year, the tour follows their previous celebrations of Fables of the Reconstruction and Murmur.

The Bottom Line

  • The Milestone: Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy are embarking on their third annual R.E.M. tribute tour, this time marking four decades of the band’s 1986 classic, Lifes Rich Pageant.
  • The Itinerary: The 22-date national run kicks off at Denver’s Summit and features notable stops including New York’s Brooklyn Steel, Los Angeles’ Bellwether, and a two-night stand at Athens, Georgia’s historic 40 Watt Club.
  • The Band: The core duo will be joined on the road by drummer Jon Wurster, bassist John Stirratt, guitarist Dag Juhlin, and keyboardist Vijay Tellis-Nayak.

Resurrecting an Indie Rock Landmark on the Road

Tickets for the 2026 run go on sale on September 19 at 10 a.m. local time via Concerted Efforts.

Reflecting on the longevity of the project, Shannon expressed both awe and disbelief regarding their continued journey through the band’s discography.

“It dumbfounds and delights me that we continue our crusade through this astounding catalogue of music from one of America’s most influential and unique bands,” Shannon said in a press release. “Now we find ourselves at a summit, LIFES RICH PAGEANT, and we’re all pinching ourselves in disbelief to be so lucky. The most strange and beautiful adventure.”

Echoing that sentiment, Narducy emphasized the personal resonance of the material. “I’m thrilled to join Michael and our band in celebrating the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.’s monumental fourth album,” Narducy stated. “This impeccable collection of songs meant so much to me when I first heard them and they continue to inspire and invigorate me.”

Tour Itinerary and High-Profile Live Lineup

The 22-date trek covers substantial geographic ground, hitting premier mid-sized and historic rock venues across the United States. Following the opening night at Denver’s Summit, the ensemble will head to the Pacific Northwest—territory that previously yielded memorable surprises, including a guest appearance by R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck during their Seattle and Portland runs in February.

The tour schedule also features iconic rooms such as San Francisco’s Fillmore, Los Angeles’ Bellwether, Austin’s Emo’s, New Orleans’ House of Blues, Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club, Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, Boston’s Royale, Brooklyn Steel, Chicago’s Metro, First Avenue in Minneapolis, and a poignant two-night residency at Athens, Georgia’s 40 Watt Club.

Chasing the Ghost of Athens Past

During their previous Fables of the Reconstruction tour, stops across the country played host to unscripted sit-ins from R.E.M. members. None, however, matched the emotional weight of their stand at the 40 Watt Club.

On that night, Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry all joined the stage for a performance of “Pretty Persuasion”—marking their first truly public group performance since 2007, outside of a sparse induction appearance at the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Overwhelmed by the moment, Shannon voiced the feelings of every lifelong fan in attendance by proclaiming it a place where dreams come true.
