University of Michigan Quarterback JJ McCarthy is busy on and off the pitch. The college athlete is dating his girlfriend, Katia Kuropasfor more than four years.
McCarthy and Kuropas fell in love while in high school in Illinois. The football player made a name for himself at Nazareth Academy, committing to Michigan in May 2019 following being ranked among the top quarterback recruits before his junior high school years.
Months before opting to play for the Wolverines, he went Instagram official with Kuropas.
“I AM LUCKY TO DATE THIS GIRL,” he said in January 2019 via Instagram. “She makes me the happiest guy in the world. Thank you for being amazing every day. Happy birthday Katya.♥️”
McCarthy arrived in Michigan ahead of the 2021 season and played behind starting QB Cade McNamara. He celebrated his third birthday with Kuropas in October.
“3 trips around the sun with the love of my life. Honestly, I don’t even know where I would be without this girl in my life,” he said via Instagram. “I just don’t deserve her because of the kind of woman she is. The purity of her heart and soul is just one of the many qualities that make this girl so amazing.
McCarthy went on to say that religion was part of their relationship, adding: “I am beyond blessed and grateful that God brought this woman into my life and I pray that she will be by my side for years to come. ”
In his second season in blue and corn, McCarthy was named the starter ahead of McNamara.
“JJ had an almost flawless performance. 11 for 12, then one was dropped. It’s hard to do any day of the week in training,” the head coach said. Jim Harbaugh told reporters following McCarthy led Michigan to a 56-10 win over Hawaii in September 2022. “I thought he had a great game. He is playing really well, we will start JJ next week. By merit, he deserved it. It is by performance, by merit.
A month later, he commemorated four years with Kuropas by his side.
“I can’t believe it’s been 4 years my love,” he wrote. “High school sweetheart, but I feel like I know you from the playground. Blessed and extremely grateful for your love and pure heart. Together, forever, whatever life brings.
Throughout the year, McCarthy’s success on the court also continued. An undefeated Michigan is set to face Texas Christian University in the college football playoffs on Saturday, December 31.
