Microsoft adds Linux-style “sudo” function in trial version of Windows 11

A build 26052 do Windows 11 released this week to members of the Insider Preview program (system testing) received the native support for the “sudo” command, a function used in Unix-based software such as Linux and macOS.

According to Microsoft, Windows 11 users will be able to use “sudo” in three ways: with a new window, with input disabled and inline – the latter being more similar to Linux, as the other options are more limited.

O project source code will be released by the company on GitHub. “We are working hard to add more information about the project to the repository and will share more details in the coming months,” said Product Manager at MicrosoftJordi Adoumie.

Any user with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26052 can now access sudo on the operating system. To do this, simply open the software settings, select the “For developers” option and activate the “Enable sudo” button.
