Microsoft ends support for Office 2016 and 2019 in 2025

Microsoft today announced that it will be ending support for Office 2016 and 2019 applications and servers in October 14, 2025. So, next year, those using the old Office suite will have to switch to a more updated version or another alternative to replace the software.

Suspending support for software will make it obsolete. It also makes its users vulnerable to hacker threats, performance issues and other serious problems. Additionally, Office 2016 and 2019 are not the only services that Microsoft will drop support in 2025.

In a post made on its blog, Microsoft commented further on the future suspension of the service:

After this end date, Microsoft will no longer provide security fixes, bug fixes, or technical support. Using products after support ends leaves your organization vulnerable to potential security threats, lost productivity, and compliance issues.

The blog post also lists which applications from the Office suite will be discontinued, as well as mentioning the servers that will go offline soon. See the Office software that will no longer be supported in 2025:

Microsoft is already communicating to its customers in organizations that make daily use of these applications in their work ecosystem about the need to make a change to their subscription or service. The company recommends that customers sign up for the Microsoft 365 E3 suite of apps.

However, companies that are still unable to upgrade by the stipulated deadline will be able to subscribe to Office LTSC 2021. However, this application will have its support terminated in October 13, 2026so customers would only have one more year to organize themselves.
