Microsoft is rowing back on File Explorer settings

2023-06-24 06:03:11

June 24, 2023 – After Microsoft removed various file explorer settings in a pre-release version of Windows 11, there was a great outcry. In the most recent preview, all settings are now available once more.

In mid-June, Microsoft announced in one blog post to want to remove various well-known settings in the file explorer options of Windows 11. The reason given was that they wanted to clean up and reduce the number of these rarely used settings. The settings included “Hide protected system files”, “Show file icon on thumbnails” or “Always show icons instead of thumbnails”.

After the announced changes were implemented in the most recent Windows 11 previews, resistance was noticeable in the community and like “Neowin” reports, many users have clearly spoken out once morest these innovations. Microsoft has now apparently thought better of it due to the clear feedback and has reversed the changes in the most recent build 23481. (rd)
