Microsoft recently made the authentication error public and promised a quick fix. Among other things, the error prevents remote desktop connections with domain users. Domain users may also fail to log in. This can affect Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) authentication. It affects devices that have the November 8 update installed. As BleepingComputer now reportsthe software manufacturer has now responded with an emergency update (out-of-band update).
The emergency update is offered for a number of server versions, some as a cumulative update, some as a standalone update. An update is not yet available for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, but it should be released next week.
