Migraine: ways to prevent attacks

Up to 39 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches, which are considered idiopathic, but 70% of cases are familial. In order to prevent the frequency, severity and persistence of migraine attacks, we must target the main causes and triggers of this disease and make adjustments to our lifestyle, in addition to stress management and relaxation techniques.

The reasons are variable and start with fatigue, lack of sleep or sleeping for a long time (the normal sleep rate is between 6 and 9 hours), and avoidance of strong smells, noise or light. As for the diet, it is very important and should contain a small amount of food rich in nitrate, monosodium glutamate, and tyramine (such as cheese, salami, citrus fruits, chocolate, canned food, alcohol, and a high dose of caffeine). Hunger, which can cause migraines, should also be avoided. Exercise, weather change, altitude, and menstruation are also known triggers. It should be noted that avoiding even passive smoking is beneficial in this context.

And the majority of people with migraine feel the approaching seizure before it occurs and know what are the triggers of the disease, so they have to work with their doctor to reach a better result. The severity of migraine headaches increases after it begins, and from here it is important to intervene and treat the patient by giving him a high dose at an early time that would stop the course of the disease, with the aim of obtaining better results to stop the pain. Migraine headaches can decrease with age, but there is no definitive cure.
