1.275 million euros for a painting by Osman Hamdi Bey at the 19th Century Paintings auction on May 2, 2023

Vienna, May 2, 2023 (OTS) – Vienna – The top lot of the Dorotheum auction of 19th-century paintings on May 2, 2023, Osman Hamdi Bey’s “A Look in the Mirror” was auctioned for 1.275 million euros. The oil painting, created around 1880, depicts a young lady in opulent Paris-trained Osman Hamdi Bey (1842-1910) is considered the founder of modern Turkish painting, which combined tradition and modernity as well as Western academic painting with Eastern finesse.It was the second million hammer price for this artist at Dorotheum following 2019.
