Anxious to set the record straight, Pope Francis revealed the real reasons for his hospitalization during a press conference aboard the plane returning him to the Vatican following a visit to Hungary. “I felt a strong pain at the end of the hearing (March 29, editor’s note), I did not lose consciousness”, indicated the Pope. “I had a high fever and at 3 p.m. the doctor immediately had me hospitalized for acute and strong pneumoniain the lower part of the lung”, he continued at the microphone of our colleagues from the chaîne WHOCatholic television.
“Thank God I can tell! Because the organism, the body, responded well to the treatment, thank God”, he concluded. The Argentine pope was released from hospital on April 1, after a course of antibiotics. It should be noted that the religious suffered from acute pleurisy at the age of 21, an illness which had resulted in removal of part of his lung right to lead to his healing.
