Mineduc reduces the number of students without enrollment from 5,000 to 880 – La Discusión 2024-04-17 02:56:43

The Ministry of Education provided an updated report on enrollment in schools and high schools nationwide, revealing a notable reduction in the number of students without a place. According to the figures provided, of more than 5 thousand students who had no vacancy in December of last year, today there are only 880 children and young people without being able to enroll in educational establishments.

This significant progress is attributed to the registration regularization process implemented by the ministry, a common practice every year. In December 2023, after the first registration period, the lack of places affected 5,800 students. However, by March 31, 2024, this figure decreased significantly to 880 people without a vacancy.

The decrease in demand is concentrated mainly in the northern region of the country, with Antofagasta being the most affected city with 42% of national demand, followed by Lampa, Colina and Santiago, each with 20%. The remaining 38% is distributed in other areas of the country.

The Ministry of Education responded to this high demand by implementing various measures, such as the creation of overcrowding, increasing places, making the full school day more flexible and installing modular rooms.

In addition, it was highlighted that the number of students without a place has experienced a significant reduction in recent years, going from 10,595 in 2021 to 880 in 2024.

The Undersecretary of Education, Alejandra Arratia, pointed out that students who will begin the school year a month later will receive special support in both socio-emotional and pedagogical aspects.

In relation to the students who still remain without a place, the undersecretary assured that new vacancies will continue to be created, with around half of these places already in the administrative process of creation. “The goal is for that number to reach zero. I want to be very clear about that, we are working to get that number to zero,” said Alejandra Arratia.

With this continued effort, the Ministry of Education seeks to ensure that all students in the country have access to quality education, leaving no one behind.
