Miners attempt escape from police and plunge their car into Willebroek canal.

The accident took place in Willebroek, near the Boomsesteenweg when the car tried to flee from the police. According to Kato Belmans, spokesperson for the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, the police had noticed the reckless driving of the car during a night check and attempted to stop it. However, the driver accelerated and the car eventually ended up in the canal. The car was retrieved for inspection on Wednesday morning and at present, there is no known motive for the escape other than the fact that a minor was driving.

The accident occurred near Willebroek, near the Boomsesteenweg. The vehicle was trying to evade the police. Its two occupants managed to reach the shore safe and sound before being picked up by the agents for a hearing.

“A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old got out of the car on their own and swam to the edge of the canal. After a medical examination, they were taken on board for a hearing”, informs the spokesperson. of the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, Kato Belmans.

During a night check operation, the police had noticed the “sporty driving” of the car in which the two teenagers were. She wanted to force the vehicle to stop, but the driver put the gas in an attempt to dodge her. “The car passed between two concrete blocks on the Boomsesteenweg and ended up in the canal,” said Kato Belmans.

The car was fished out Wednesday morning for inspection. For the moment, there is no reason for his escape except that a minor was behind the wheel.
