Rima Abdul-Malak is concerned about the accessibility of Frenchie Shore to minors. In an interview published this Tuesday, November 21 in The Parisianthe Minister of Culture calls for protecting children from this Paramount+ reality show presented as “the trashiest ever produced in France”.
“I will be careful not to comment on the choices of channels and platforms which have their editorial freedom,” she begins by declaring. “This program is not recommended for those under 16. But anyone can come across it on social networks, as happened to me,” she warns again.
“Not in the register of fiction”
As Rima Abdul-Malak points out, Arcom, the authority in charge of media regulation, “has jurisdiction over platforms for the protection of minors”. Through this, the minister hopes to restrict minors’ access to a program which, according to her, “borders on pornography”.
“We are not in the register of fiction, of a film or a series, with the hindsight that that implies,” she specifies. “For adolescents who say to themselves, this is the reality of human relations, of sexual relations, it can be a catastrophic introduction.”
Launched on November 11, Frenchie Shore is inspired by the American show Welcome to Jersey Shore. The program, which brings together candidates aged between 20 and 30 chosen “for their extravagant personality, temperament and eccentric lifestyle”, has been heavily criticized for its vulgarity.
