Music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards, founder of SB.TV and promoter of important artists such as Ed Sheeran and Dave, dies at 31

British Jamal Edwards, founder of the online urban music platform SB.TV, died on February 20 at the age of 31, according to his manager, quoted by local media.

Jamal’s mother, Brenda Edwards, confirmed this Monday the news and in a brief statement indicated that the musical entrepreneur had died of a “sudden illness”, without giving more details. “I would like to thank everyone for the messages of love and support from him. Jamal was an inspiration to me and so many,” he wrote.

Through SB.TV, created to discover and showcase emerging musicians, Edwards helped launch the careers of renowned British artists including rapper Dave, singer Ed Sheeran and songwriter Jessie J. He was also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust charity, founded by Prince Charles. In 2014, Jamal was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to music.
