Ministry of Public Administration and Security’s new police department, approved by the State Council… Implemented on the 2nd of the next month

An amendment to the government’s enforcement ordinance was passed at the Cabinet meeting on the 26th to establish a police department within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The amendment will be promulgated and implemented on the 2nd of next month.

The government held a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Han Deok-soo at the government complex in Seoul on the morning of the same day and voted on ‘a partial revision of the organization of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and its affiliated institutions’.

Prime Minister Han said, “It is an amended decree that will allow the Minister of Public Administration and Security, who is the Cabinet Secretary, to more transparently and democratically take over the actual leadership of the National Police Agency, which was overseen by the Office of the Chief Civil Affairs Officer of the Blue House. The contents of the establishment of a new police department for the Minister of Public Administration and Security to provide administrative support to the National Police Agency, which is a public security agency,” he said.

“I hope that the Minister of Public Administration and Security will persuade and communicate with the National Police Agency and resolve all related administrative issues as soon as possible in accordance with this reorganization,” he added.

The amendment bill newly established a police department in the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and required 13 personnel (1 magistrate, 1 superintendent, 1 superintendent or 4th grade, 4 superintendent, 1 superintendent, 4 inspector, 3/4 or 1 superintendent) ) is augmented. The government explained that the purpose of the establishment of the police station was “to enable the Minister of Public Administration and Security to more systematically carry out legal affairs for the National Police Agency and the National Police Commission.”
