HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — A 25-year-old Alabama woman returned home Saturday afternoon after a two-day search by police and family members, who reported her missing after she stopped to check on a minor at the that he saw walking along a highway.

Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell returned to the home she shared with her parents in Hoover, Al.com reported Saturday night, citing police.

Russell arrived home alone and was taken to a hospital for examination, Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis said in a statement reported by AL-com.

It was not initially clear where Russell had been since he called 911 and a family member to say he had seen a boy walking on the side of I-459 around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police found Russell’s car and her cell phone, but were unable to find her or the boy in the area.

The relative who was speaking with Russell said she had lost contact with her even though the line remained open, Hoover police Lt. Daniel Lowe said. A lone witness said he may have seen a gray vehicle and a man standing in front of Carlee’s vehicle, but he had no further information.

Police had asked people to offer any information they might have about the disappearance, and members of his family organized a search of the area.

Talitha Russell told AL.com her daughter was returning home to the town, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Birmingham, after leaving work and stopping to buy food. She was on the phone with her brother’s girlfriend when she saw a boy on the side of the road.

“My son’s girlfriend overheard her asking the boy ‘Are you okay?’ She never heard the boy respond to anything, but then she heard our daughter scream,” Talitha Russell said. “From that point on, all you could hear is background noise from the interstate.”

Two separate rewards of $20,000 and $5,000 were offered during the search for information leading to the safe return of the woman.
