Montana (USA): Police search for Ryker (4) with helicopters and dogs

Ryker was last seen last Friday. In the afternoon he had played in the garden with his father and the family dog. When his father finally went into the house for a moment, the four-year-old disappeared – and left no trace of himself. Two hours later, the family called the police.

“We have a very desperate family and we are very concerned,” sheriff Darren Short told KREM. The emergency services quickly mobilized a large number of search forces. More than 50 people searched together for Ryker, drones, helicopters, sniffer dogs, infrared cameras and a boat were used – initially without success.

Ryker remained gone. Extreme storms with violent clap of thunder, heavy rain and dense fog made the work of the search forces extremely difficult. In addition, in the dense forest of Montana, the searchers on the ground made very slow progress.

Police eventually reported the little boy missing nationwide, and residents in the area were urged to search their homes and yards, but Ryker has still not been found. The four-year-old spent two nights alone in the wilderness, in the dark the temperature dropped to below five degrees.

Ryker was finally found after two nights and around 40 hours of searching. The boy reappeared on Sunday morning, about four kilometers from the place where he disappeared.

Ryker was “hungry, thirsty and cold,” police said. In a picture released by the officials, the four-year-old also appears to have a bloody nose. However, given the circumstances, he is doing well, police said.

Ryker was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. According to the police, there are no signs of misconduct on the part of the parents. So the four-year-old and his parents can finally be together again. (jda)
