The McCloskeys of St. Louis have been dividing US political camps since they aimed guns at Black Lives Matter protesters.

St. Louis – The terrifying images went around the world: a couple who threatened demonstrators with a pistol and an assault rifle in front of their house in the US city of St. Louis, Missouri. We’re talking about Patricia and Mark McCloskey, who with their crazy demeanor not only split the political camps in the USA*. Celebrated by many Republicans, including former President Donald Trump*, the Democrats sharply criticized the self-judicial approach. Now the controversy surrounding the controversial spouses is moving again.

The background to the crazy act in June 2020 was the protest movements in the USA, in which people across the country took to the streets to fight racism and police violence. The “Black Lives Matter” movement was triggered by the death of African American George Floyd*, who was killed in a police operation in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. In St. Louis, protesters used a private street in front of the McCloskeys’ home in a luxury St. Louis neighborhood for their protest march. The goal of the march was the house of the city’s mayor, who also lives in the neighborhood. The couple then armed themselves and threatened to shoot at the protesters.

Weapon couple McCloskey: Donald Trump also shared the video on Twitter

The US judiciary then began the investigation. The indictment said Patricia McCloskey waved a semi-automatic pistol and her husband Mark left the home with an AR-15 assault rifle and threatened protesters. Although no shots were fired and no one was injured, cell phone videos and photos of the heavily armed McCloskeys spread like wildfire on social media. Donald Trump also shared the video of the armed couple on Twitter.

Special prosecutor Richard Callahan was familiar with the McCloskey case and, in the course of his investigation, initially stated that the protest action in St. Louis had been peaceful, as The Guardian reports. “There was no evidence that either of them had a gun. Also, no one I interviewed had ventured onto the private property,” Callahan said in a statement.

According to the indictment: Hardly any consequences for the gun couple McCloskey

In October 2020, Mark and Patricia McCloskey faced charges of unlawful use of a firearm and evidence tampering by a grand jury. However, Special Prosecutor Callahan soon changed the charges to give the jury the alternative of a felony misdemeanor conviction instead of the weapons charge. The McCloskeys then pleaded guilty and were ordered to surrender their guns. A mild fine of a small amount was also imposed.

Because the charges were only misdemeanor offenses, the McCloskeys were not in danger of losing their respective attorney’s licenses or their right to own firearms in the United States.

Gun couple pardoned in the US: Mark McCloskey wants to run for the Senate

Last Friday (07/30/2021) the Republican governor of the US state of Missouri, Michael L. Parson, finally pardoned the McCloskey couple. This was announced by the governor’s office on Tuesday (08/03/2021). A conviction is therefore void. “I would do it again,” Mark McCloskey said on the steps of the downtown St. Louis courthouse. “Anytime the mob comes my way, I will do everything in my power to put them in imminent danger of physical injury. Because that’s what kept them from destroying my family and mine,” McCloskey said. There was no apology for the McCloskeys’ insane behavior at the protest against racism, inequality and police violence in St. Louis.

Mark McCloskey has announced that he will seek political office in the future. He told Fox News last May that he would run for a Senate seat in the US state of Missouri in 2022. “If we don’t stand up now and take this country back, this is where it’s going,” McCloskey said at the time.
