With the death of Mayor Yukio Takano, who was in his sixth term, four independent newcomers competed for the post of mayor of Toshima Ward, the first in 24 years. Former deputy ward mayor Miyuki Takagiwa (57) = recommended by the Liberal Democratic Party, Komei, and Tokyo Citizens First Association = decided to be elected for the first time. After graduating from university, he was in charge of and sales at Suntory. At the age of 29, she decided to work in welfare for the elderly and became a city official. After working as secretary general under Governor Yuriko Koike, she served as deputy mayor of Toshima Ward for three years from 2020.

He had planned to return to Tokyo after completing his term, but was appointed as his successor by Yukio Takano, the former head of the ward who died in February. “It was too big, and I was overwhelmed,” she once declined. With support from Governor Koike, he made up his mind to “stand up.” His hobby is traveling alone.
