The American food company Mars Inc. announced the arrival of ‘Purple’ (‘Morado’, in Spanish), a new character of M&M’s chocolates designed to “represent acceptance and inclusion” with “his sincere self-expression”, according to a company statement.
“There are many things about our new spokesperson that people can relate to and appreciate, including her willingness to embrace her true self – our new character reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique,” said Jane Hwang, global vice president of Mars Wrigley.
Joining the fictional candy cast that includes ‘Red’, ‘Yellow’, ‘Orange’, ‘Green’, ‘Brown’ and ‘Blue’, ‘Purple’ is the first character to be added to the cast in a decade and the third female spokesperson, after ‘Green’, who made her television debut in 1997, and ‘Brown’, who joined in 2012.
It is oval in shape just like ‘Yellow’ and ‘Blue’, both designed as male characters.

As a music lover, ‘Purple”s entry into the world of candy included a musical performance titled ‘I’m Just Gonna Be Me’, in which it “celebrates all voices, encouraging people around the world to embrace their authentic selves,” the firm shared.
The song will be available on all major music platforms. For each broadcast, one dollar (up to $500,000) will be donated to Sing for Hope, a nonprofit organization that “harnesses the power of the arts to provide hope, connection and purpose,” the company said, detailing that the initiative is part of the shares of the M&M’s foundation.
