Africa mitigated monkeypox outbreaks during coronavirus pandemic
Several countries in Africa detected and were able to control outbreaks of monkeypox as the coronavirus pandemic hit the entire planetThe African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), an agency of the African Union (AU), reported Thursday.
“Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Cameroon and other countries detected outbreaks of monkeypox (during the coronavirus pandemic)“, said the newly appointed director of the Africa CDC, Ahmed Ogwell, in an online press conference of this institution.
“The disease affected to communities on the edge of large forestsand the outbreaks were quickly contained, so maybe that’s why this news didn’t make it to the (international) media,” Ogwell added.
