“Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer”: the relatives of the victims are angry with the production

On Wednesday, September 21, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” was released, which looks back on the life of the famous serial killer nicknamed “the Cannibal of Milwaukee”. Appreciated by viewers, this production however attracts the wrath of the relatives of the victims.

Played by Evan Peters (American Horror Story, X Men), Jeffrey Dahmer killed at least 17 men between 1978 and 1991. The serial killer chose his victims, black men and sometimes minors, by going to gay bars in the city of Milwaukee, in the North of the UNITED STATES. Necrophiliac and cannibal, he dismembered his victims and kept certain members as “souvenirs”.

“I don’t need to watch it, I lived it”

In 1992, during the televised trial of the murderer, Rita Isbell, sister of Errol Lindsey, made a statement in court. This moment, when she loses her temper, was reproduced identically by the series released on the Netflix streaming platform.

“I feel like Netflix should have asked us if we mind or how we feel about the project. I was never contacted about the show, they just did,” she said in an essay posted on Insider.

For others, this new series has “rekindled some trauma for the LGBT community” in Milwaukee, Scott Gunker reported to the Fox and relayed by Huffpost.

An LGBT activist, he worked in a gay bar where some of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims went. He also crossed paths with the serial killer. “They all had families. It’s unfortunate that they constantly have these new movies and series coming out. It’s hard to turn the page,” he said.

do not forget

“I ask you, when you watch the show, to remember that these men were sons, best friends, cousins, uncles, with dreams, hopes and goals they couldn’t achieve,” said actor Shaun J. Brown, who plays Tracy Edwards, a victim who managed to escape Jeffrey Dahmer.
