About 25 cars of a freight train went off the rails in the US state of Montana on Sunday. No injuries or evacuations were reported, authorities said. The accident happened in Sanders County, northwest Montana, near the town of Paradise on the Clark Fork River, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters and representatives of the Montana Rail Link railway company were on site trying to find the cause of the derailment.

Photos published on social networks gave the impression that some of the wagons were protruding into the river. The railway company announced that no hazardous substances had escaped.

Regulators and members of the US Congress, following train crashes recently reported in Ohio and Minnesota dangerous substances escaped and led to evacuations, more preventive work against such accidents was called for.
