A cargo plane crashed into a lake in southern France. The approximately 30-year-old Boeing 737 machine shot over the runway early on Saturday morning in Montpellier in stormy weather and came to a halt in reeds and grass on the shore of a lake called Etang d’Or bordering the airport, the regional authorities said With. The nose of the plane got caught in the water.

As the Aerotelegraph journal reported, a large contingent of 60 employees from the fire and rescue services, including specialists for water rescue, the gendarmerie brigade for air transport and airport employees, was sent to the scene of the accident.

The three crew members on board were brought to safety unharmed. The airport was closed, cargo and passenger flights were diverted and all take-offs and landings were suspended until the commissioned special company recovered the machine. This belongs to the company West Atlantic and is operated by the Spanish Swiftair. She was mainly on French domestic routes. From its delivery in 1993 until 2015, the jet belonged to British Airways.
