The Montreal Alouettes announced that they released defensive end Nick Usher on Sunday morning.

Usher has played five games this season and has five tackles and a quarterback sack.

The 28-year-old Usher joined the Alouettes in 2021. After playing 14 games that season with Montreal, Usher saw his contract extended by the Alouettes for two years in January 2022.

In return, the Sparrows have reached an agreement with the defensive lineman currently free agent, Shawn Lemon according to information from journalist Farhan Lalji of TSN.

The 34-year-old Lemon spent the 2022 season with the Calgary Stampeders, tying his personal best 14 quarterback sacks in 17 games.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Lemon even earned a selection to the CFL All-Star Game in addition to receiving the title of Best Defensive Player in the Western Division.

In addition, he won the Gray Cup with the Stampeders in 2014 and with the Argonauts in 2017, appearing in 135 regular season games.

After starting the season with two wins, the Alouettes have now lost their last three games. The Montreal troupe is second in the East, behind the Toronto Argonauts.
