The countdown continues to run in Coahuila and it is a matter of weeks for us Coahuila to decide the direction we want for our state. The dilemma is reduced to whether we opt for a change that seems very promising to us, but without any evidence that allows us to trust it; Or, continue with what we have already witnessed of policies that bet on the competitiveness of the economy.
In these days, we had the opportunity to listen to the offers of the candidates. Nothing different, the same speech and proposals as always. As a citizen, it is a concern not to listen to serious, consistent and well-structured ideas that are capable of continuing to position Coahuila as a benchmark entity in the country. It hurts to express it, but sometimes it gives the impression that not even the citizens themselves realize the importance of our state at the national level and how urgent it is to address serious and forceful proposals that allow us to capitalize on and take advantage of the abrupt changes that we are experiencing. watching as humanity.
We can think of three proposals that, depending on current and future circumstances, need to be addressed with a sense of urgency. First, a comprehensive urban and industrial development plan for the Southeast Region of the state is imperative. The economic growth of the region, although it is true that it is something worth noting, has brought with it great challenges in terms of roads, traffic and growth of the urban sprawl. Not addressing these problems in their real proportion would condemn us not only to limit our growth potential, but also to trigger other more severe social problems.
Secondly, as the saying goes, “when you see your neighbor’s beards cut, put yours to soak”. It is enough to observe the problem in Monterey with the issue of water scarcity, to reflect that we cannot ensure that we are exempt from this problem. The neighboring capital is a good reference to take note of the problems faced by large cities, which -some of them- are already beginning to suffer. Let’s not let the issue of water reach us.
Thirdly, an issue that has been discussed several times in this same space is that of having a Fiscal Council that contributes to the analysis and evaluation of income, spending and debt policies in order to raise awareness about the consequences and impacts of fiscal policy and thus contribute to decision-making. Apparently, at this point a proposal from one of the candidates is finally appreciated. Let us hope that it will consist of the same terms in which it is recommended by international organizations. These would be just some of the ideas of proposals that as a society we would like to hear. Innovative and daring proposals. The economic strength of our entity does not expect less than that.
