A report from the Spanish media ABC told the story of these Spaniards, Alazne and Juan, who are influencers, residents of Barcelona, who spend their time traveling and telling their “adventures” to their thousands of followers on social networks.
Both have shared a video on the social network where they ask for urgent help to enter the United States. The couple encounters an unexpected “drama”: the ESTA is not useful for them to travel to the US because they were in Cuba last year. Spaniards without ESTA to the US, for being in Cuba.
In the video, which has already achieved more than 39,000 views in two days, Alazne explains the situation: «We have a big problem because we were in Cuba last year. We wanted to take a trip to the US and it turns out that ESTA doesn’t work for us,” she explained.

ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is an electronic permit that allows citizens of certain countries, including Spain, to travel to the United States without the need for a visa. However, since January 2021, Cuba was included in the list of countries that support terrorism by the United States and this facility was ended for anyone who has visited the island since then.
The only option left for Alazne and Juan is to apply for a B-2 tourist visa. This process is longer and more complex than the ESTA, and can take several months. In fact, tourist visa applications at the Madrid consulate spend more than 700 days waiting for an appointment.
Alazne and Juan’s situation is not unique. Many travelers are encountering this problem since Cuba was included in the list of countries that support terrorism. Many have chosen not to travel to the island if they later have difficulty entering North America.
