More than 25 million US dollars repatriated to Burundi

The green coffee produced is 6,490.662 tonnes out of a forecast of 6,770 tonnes.

“The overall quantity exported is 6383.806 tons for a value of 26,643,918 USD, or 52.281 billion. The average price being 4.17 USD/kg,” he says.

And to specify that the amount already repatriated is 25,785,842 USD: “The amount not yet collected corresponds to the quantity of coffee not yet shipped”.

Taking into account the positive results, he added, the coffee growers benefited from a premium varying between 100 and 150 BIF/Kg of coffee cherry A and between 50 and 75 BIF/kg of coffee cherry B.

For some organizations that have not yet paid the premiums to coffee growers, the Minister of Agriculture urges them to do so before July 30: “Exceeding this deadline, their export licenses will be withdrawn and they will no longer operate in the coffee sector. All of their coffee will be seized by the State so that the Office for the Development of Coffee (ODECA) proceeds to the payment of these premiums”.

With regard to the current 2022-2023 coffee campaign, he indicates that the quantity already collected is 85,676.469 tonnes out of a forecast of 94,866.113. cherry coffee already collected is 33,725.394 tonnes out of a forecast of 441,627 tonnes”.

According to him, an amount of more than 12 billion was paid to 81,298 coffee growers up to 800 BIF/kg of cherry A coffee and 400 BIF/kg of cherry B coffee.

For washed parchment coffee, the Minister of Agriculture stresses that the maximum price for this campaign is BIF 1,500/kg without any charge to the producer.
