In the first quarter of 2022, Tunisia produced around 1.130 million tonnes of commercial phosphate, the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) announced on Sunday.
In a statement, the general management of production at CPG (the main government phosphate production company), said that production was up by 750,000 tonnes compared to the same period of 2021.
According to the central management of the CPG, this increase in production was successful despite the suspension of the company’s production circuit in Redayef (one of the localities in the province of Gafsa) for about a year and a half.
Among the problems mentioned is also the disruption of the production rhythm in Om Larayes (another locality in the Gafsa mining basin) since January 2022.
In general, the volume of phosphate production for the current first quarter is described as “correct” despite official forecasts which rely on a higher balance sheet, the company commented in its statement.
