Morocco leads African countries in the field of clean energy plants

According to the website, the countries of the continent, led by Morocco, Egypt and South Africa, are competing for solar energy projects, at a time when the continent continues to make a leap in photovoltaic power generation capacity, explaining that experts expect the contribution of renewables to increase the total amount of electricity generated on the continent in the coming years.

He continued that the African continent has a number of the largest clean energy plants in the world, due to its enormous potential in terms of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, wind energy and hydroelectric power stations.

The outlet also pointed out that African countries are heading towards competition in building the largest clean energy plants, in their various forms, in search of securing access to electricity in disadvantaged areas, in addition to supporting the global goal of energy transformation to address climate change, as well as diversifying the sources of electricity generation to reduce dependence on fossil fuels considered the main cause of pollution in the world.

The specialized energy platform listed the most important experiences of African countries in building the largest clean energy plants, especially solar and wind power generation projects, with particular emphasis on the “Noor” project in Morocco, located in the city of Ouarzazate.

According to the website, the “Noor Ouarzazate” plant is the largest CSP plant in Africa, noting that this plant contributes to avoiding up to 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.

He also recalled that Morocco signed, in January 2021, an agreement for the implementation of the “Jbel Al-Hadid” wind farm project in the Essaouira region, with a total capacity of 270 megawatts, and this , as part of the country’s efforts to own the largest clean energy plants and make good use of natural potential.
