Mors-Thy would own millions, whose tears were gold

Mads Savne could not be in himself. He probably expressed what many of his teammates felt when he hammered his fist into a folding table that had been set up on the field right after the game. While the tears streamed down the playmaker’s cheeks, he had to pull himself together and say thank you for the match to the Ribe-Esbjerg players.

– It is the biggest disappointment in my entire life. We had every opportunity in front of the most amazing home pitch. 2000 people should be enough to beat Ribe-Esbjerg in their own cave.

The contrast could not be greater. Otherwise, not much was missing for Mors-Thy’s adventurous season to have had another chapter added. Instead, a bunch of broken Mors-Thy players had to stand and watch, while the Ribe-Esbjerg players cheered wildly over a secured semi-final place.

It would have been the ultimate climax to an eventful season. Against all odds, Mors-Thy has continued to impress in situations where it shouldn’t be possible. On Sunday evening, the adventure ended this time for Mors-Thy, and it was not with the happy ending that approximately 2,000 local handball fans had turned up their noses at.

Leading up to the match, Niels Agesen pulled a rabbit out of his hat – the prince on the white horse, if you will – when the profile Frederik Tilsted appeared on the team card. Already during the warm-up it was clear that he was not just there to receive the honor as player of the year in MTH before the match. He had to have a role. It just didn’t turn out to be the role that one had hoped for in the best of all dreams.

Symptomatic of Mors-Thy’s overall effort, Frederik Tilsted did not succeed in making the desired offensive impression. He was far from alone in that.

If Mors-Thy were to give themselves optimal conditions to advance in front of the strong home crowd, then you would have to have a number of counterscorings so that you did not wear yourself out in the established attacking game. That, more than anything else, was the key to success.

The atmosphere was top notch along the way.

That part of the plan was never fulfilled. Mors-Thy never got the contra machine going. There were several reasons for this. The vast majority of the 2,000 spectators were on their feet when Mors-Thy played for a three-goal lead just before the break. Instead, they threw the ball away, and that boded badly for the second half.

It was never good either, because Ribe-Esbjerg had the upper hand, while Mors-Thy struggled with the offensive.

Therefore, it ended up that the most well-composed season in Mors-Thy’s history did not get the finishing touch that would have been completely magical. Instead, a heartbroken Mads Svane was left and was almost at a loss for words.

– I need some time away from this, because I have never been so disappointed. It’s hard to put into words right now. I know we’ve had a great season, but it doesn’t matter right now, says the skilled playmaker.

When Mads Svane and the other Mors-Thy players get over the disappointment a little, they will be proud of the adventurous season they have put together in Bette Balkanland. The fusion club has never stood stronger. It ranges from commercial support to sporting results and interest from fans. Sure, the defeat to Ribe-Esbjerg was a bump in the road, but that doesn’t change the fact that the future for Mors-Thy looks really bright.
