Mother (51) and daughter (13) murdered: There is no trace of the father

According to the Vienna police, the two bodies were found in the anteroom. The husband or father of the two victims was also registered at this address. But there was no trace of this on Friday. The victims could have been strangled or strangled, certain details depend on the autopsy.

In any case, the cause of death for the daughter and mother is said to have been “blunt force”; further details will only be determined after the forensic medical examinations: the Vienna criminal police assume that a 51-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter died in their apartment on Erdbergstrasse third district were killed intentionally.

The bodies were discovered in the early hours of Friday morning after police officers opened the apartment door. The 51-year-old’s mother was worried and alerted the executive. An emergency doctor could only determine that both victims were dead.

Video: Police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger on the current status of the investigation

On Friday it was neither clear when the mother and daughter were killed nor who the perpetrator might have been. Philipp Haßlinger, a spokesman for the Vienna State Police Directorate, said that the results of the autopsy were not yet available. The murder investigators from the Vienna State Criminal Police Office have taken over the case. The crime scene team searched the apartment for clues. New findings could possibly be available as early as Saturday.

There is no suspect yet, said Haßlinger. However, investigations are being carried out “in the family environment” of the mother and daughter.

Murders: Mostly relationship crimes

According to a study commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior last year, in six out of ten cases of femicide, the perpetrator and victim had a family relationship. 44 percent of cases involve relationships with a household.

The discovery of the two bodies in Erdberg awakens memories of a murder case from 2022.
At that time, a 32-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were strangled to death in their apartment in Vienna-Mariahilf. The partner was identified as the perpetrator. The native Tunisian (then 49) fled to France after the crime, but was arrested. He murdered his 14-year-old stepdaughter because she suddenly came into the bedroom and started screaming. The perpetrator wanted to “quiet” her, as it was said in the court case.

At that time, the defendant was unanimously found guilty of the double murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.”
