Prima Pramac Racing rider Jorge Martin returned to the top of the 2024 MotoGP standings after he achieved a double runner-up finish at the Silverstone Circuit, England.

Martin, who came to Silverstone 10 points clear of Francesco Bagnaia at the top of the standings, began to close the gap to just one point when he finished second in the Sprint Race on Saturday (3/8), after the reigning champion crashed.

In the main race, Sunday (4/8), Martin again finished second behind Enea Bastianini who beat him twice at Silverstone.

However, Bagnaia, who again finished no better than Martin in third place, made Martin’s points tally enough to take over the top of the standings with 241 points, three points ahead of the Italian rider who has now dropped to second place.

In third place, Bastinini, who took over from Marc Marquez when he won the Sprint race, saw his victory in the main race move him further away from The Baby Alien with a 13-point advantage.

Meanwhile, completing the top five positions is Aprilia racer Maverick Vinales with a collection of 130 points.

This season’s MotoGP series will continue for two more weeks, precisely on August 16-18, at the Red Bull Ring Circuit, Spielberg, Austria. (Ant/Z-1)
