The emergency services were alerted on Sunday evening, shortly after 11:00 p.m., of a traffic accident on the Marquain motorway interchange, in the Mouscron-Tournai direction.

A car hit the concrete rail located on the right of the highway. The vehicle then took off, crossed the berm and ended up in the trees. When emergency workers arrived, the driver, aged between 40 and 50, had already died. He was alone in his car.
A SMUR, an ambulance, an extrication vehicle, a truck for beaconing, a tank for cleaning and a command vehicle had been dispatched to the scene.
This new accident in the Marquain interchange is reminiscent of a similar tragedy that took place on July 20 at the same place. This cost the lives of five members of a family in Tournai, namely the parents and their three children.
