MultiChoice Nigeria Unveils Four New DStv Packages

MultiChoice Nigeria has unveiled four revised subscription packages—Starter, Select, Sports, and Premium—priced between ₦6,000 and ₦44,500, rolling out to new customers on November 5, 2026. Unveiled in Lagos on Tuesday, October 27, the revamped lineup introduces additional movie channels and expands live football coverage as part of an integration into CANAL+, Legit News reported.

Package Structuring and Pricing Shifts

Under the revised fee structure announced by MultiChoice Nigeria, subscribers will pay ₦6,000 monthly for the Starter tier, ₦11,000 for Select, ₦21,000 for Sports, and ₦44,500 for Premium. The Starter package, which replaces the former Access tier, incorporates entry-level entertainment alongside the new SuperSport KICKOFF channel. This channel is scheduled to broadcast the Premier League Match of the Week and selected UEFA Champions League fixtures. Meanwhile, the Select package succeeds DStv Family to cater to households seeking a broader mix of local and international series, children’s programmes, and movies.

For dedicated sports viewers, the Sports package consolidates coverage of football matches alongside lower-tier general entertainment channels. The Premium package remains the flagship option, retaining all Sports offerings while appending Formula 1, major tennis tournaments, golf, and international series.

DStv Package Monthly Subscription Price Key Content Additions
Starter ₦6,000 SuperSport KICKOFF, Premier League Match of the Week, La Liga channel
Select ₦11,000 Movies, local and international series, children’s programmes
Sports ₦21,000 All Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches, general entertainment
Premium ₦44,500 Formula 1, major tennis, golf, international series

Concurrent with the pricing announcement, MultiChoice is executing a broader entertainment portfolio refresh. Africa Magic Family is transitioning to Africa Magic+, while the movie catalog introduces M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars, and M-Net Legends. These adjustments aim to deliver recent films and reduce repeat programming across bouquets.

Regional variations in the broader CANAL+ integration highlight differing local market pressures. Business Daily reported that in Kenya, MultiChoice consolidated six product lines into four and lowered prices, including a 37.6 percent reduction for the top-tier package to Sh7,300, responding to intense competition from internet-based streaming services and piracy. TechCentral noted that while top-tier prices dropped significantly in markets like Uganda, Kenya, and Zambia, Nigeria’s ₦44,500 ceiling remained unchanged for Premium.

Automated Migration and Subscriber Adjustments

Existing subscribers affected by the restructuring will experience automated migrations in phases starting November 5, 2026. Customers are not required to take proactive measures unless they prefer selecting an alternative package. Furthermore, MultiChoice confirmed that subscribers will not need to purchase new hardware or manually update the DStv Stream application to access the revised channel lineups.

Account verification and package comparisons remain accessible through the DStv website, the MyDStv mobile application, and customer service channels. Business Daily noted that MultiChoice’s market share in Kenya fell from 60.2 percent in September 2022 to 41.3 percent, driven by expanding broadband adoption and unauthorized streaming sites broadcasting live English Premier League fixtures.
