Multiple reports that the logic board has been replaced by updating macOS 12.3 Mac has become a bricklayer –Engadget Japanese version

MacOS Monterey 12.3 was released this week, but there have been multiple reports that it became inoperable (so-called brick-and-mortar) after updating the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which mainly had the logic board replaced.

These are threads on Apple Developer Forums and the major bulletin board Reddit, and complaints are posted on SNS.

All of the symptoms are that when you try to update to macOS 12.3 from macOS 12.2.1 or earlier, you get an error, an endless restart loop, and finally a brick-and-mortar. Primarily limited to Macs with replaced logic boards, especially the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021).

The cycle common to them is that after the update fails, the recovery is successful at first glance, and it restarts with macOS 12.2.1. However, when I log in, the error message “iBoot Panic” is displayed, and when I try to update again, the iBoot firmware is corrupted. In this way, we end up in a brick-and-mortar situation.

The only recovery method found at this time is to plug in another MacApple Configurator 2 Just restore macOS 12.2.1 using. However, even if I try to update to macOS 12.3 again, the same symptom is repeated and it returns to the beginning.

If you don’t have a spare Mac, you’ll have to go to the Apple Store (or an authorized service provider), but staff are likely to replace the failed logic board with another, and an endless loop awaits. It’s a literal vicious circle of being there.

A MacRumors readers forum also reported that one user said, “I can’t install macOS 12.3 by any means, such as direct upgrade, install via App Store, recovery mode, DFU restore, all failed.”

As of 18th, Apple has not commented on the matter and has not stated that it is aware of the problem. MacRumors has contacted the company and will inform you in the Japanese version of Engadget as soon as there is any movement.
