Mathias D. is suspected of murder and arson in a building where he knew people were still present. The couple seemed to be doing very well and living in a beautiful home. “There was no indication that they were in trouble. They got along exceptionally well with each other and with the children. They had everything to be happy and were truly radiant. It’s horrible that things went so badly. Not only for Stéphanie, but also for the children,” reacted a member of the neighborhood.
But the truth was quite different. Mathias and Stéphanie used drugs. A source close to the investigation also described their lifestyle as “debauchery”, further indicates HLN. “I cannot say if my client was under the influence at the time of the incident,” responded the lawyer. Toxicological analyzes will be carried out to answer this question.
Mathias, a self-employed electrician, and Stéphanie, who ran a private wellness center at her home, lived in an open relationship. They allowed themselves to look elsewhere. But the argument this Wednesday afternoon would be linked to jealousy. A relative of Mathias told Nieuwsblad: “I saw him last week. He behaved very normally. He didn’t seem sad, angry or depressed. I asked him how his relationship with Stéphanie was going. . Because he regularly told me that things were not going well between them. It turned out that these problems were still not resolved”, confides the source who also reveals that Mathias and Stéphanie did not want to divorce vis-à-vis -screw their children. “Mathias D. is a very smart guy, but now he has done something very stupid,” adds this source.
Mathias, detained in Bruges prison, will appear this Tuesday at the courthouse in Kortrijk. The court could extend his detention for another month.
