Mustafa Khan Palace, which was established in the thirties of the last century, represents a historical landmark and an important archaeological site in the holy city of Karbala, as its crumbling walls and dust spread in its outskirts tell stories dating back to the royal era and prominent personalities from that time who made the palace a center for their gatherings.A member of the Iraqi Historians Association, Aziz Jaffat Al-Tarfi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Mustafa Khan’s palace belongs to Mustafa Khan bin Asad bin Muhammad Ali bin Muhammad bin Hussein, and the latter was a minister in Isfahan,” explaining that “Mustafa Khan grew up in Holy Karbala, and he has political and social contributions, and he was a brother of Abd al-Hamid Khan, the governor of the Karbala district during the royal era.Al-Tarfi said, “The palace is located in the heart of the Middle Euphrates and on the right bank of the Husseiniya River. It was established in the thirties of the last century and became a historical and social landmark, and it had a major role in serving the farmers and the people of the region.”

He added, “Mustafa Khan was the first to establish, with a number of Karbalai personalities, notables and influential people, the Iraqi Dates Association to market dates and export them outside the country, in addition to establishing a dispensary in the (Abu Asi) area in the fifties of the last century and a mosque that opened in the same place in 1968.”For his part, Abbas Fadel Qanbar, one of the intellectuals of Holy Karbala and those interested in its heritage, said: “The Palace of Mustafa Khan is one of the important and captivating holy landmarks of Karbala.Qanbar pointed out, “The people of Holy Karbala have repeatedly demanded that this palace be converted into a cultural building that brings together the Karbala cultural elites within its walls, although its ownership belongs to the heirs of Mustafa Khan.”
