Oncologist Tatiana Sulima in conversation with Lenta.ru spoke regarding the danger of the appearance of papillomas on the body. Some of them can become harbingers of cancer.
So, according to Sulima, some types of papillomas are completely safe, and some can be a signal warning of the onset of an aggressive oncological disease – cervical cancer.
The human papillomavirus enters the body and remains in it forever. Most often he is in a state of hibernation. Papillomas appear first of all with a decrease in immunity, acute chronic stress, lack of vitamins and skin damage.
“In most cases, the cause of infection is unprotected intercourse. The household way of infection is practically excluded. In rare cases, risks are possible with a pronounced decrease in immunity and stress, ”explained Sulima.
It is worth noting that not all types of human papillomavirus are carcinogenic, that is, they can cause cancer. There are more than 200 varieties, but only 14 are considered provoking oncological diseases. Highly oncogenic types of HPV 16 and HPV 18 are responsible for the development of tumors – they provoke up to 70% of cases of cervical cancer.
“Even if a person is infected with a highly oncogenic type of HPV, this does not mean that he will definitely develop cancer. The virus can go into a latent state and remain in it forever or for a long time. There is no effective proven drug that can remove HPV from the body, ”the expert explained.
