Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan sparks reaction amid Chinese complaint of “bullying and provocation”

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan sparked a wide interaction on Twitter, as tweeters were divided between supporters and opponents of the visit, and cynics of Chinese threats.

Pelosi arrived on Tuesday evening to Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory, in a move that Beijing has repeatedly warned of and mobilized its forces near the island in a clear threatening message to Washington.

The US House of Representatives did not care about Beijing’s threats and hit everything that was said by Chinese officials, most recently President Xi Jinping, who warned his US counterpart Joe Biden against “playing with fire”, and has already made a two-day visit to Taiwan.

Pelosi said during a press conference held on Wednesday that the US Congress, both Democratic and Republican, is committed to Taiwan’s security and its right to defend itself.

Pelosi’s visit cast a shadow on social media, as the tweeters were divided between a fan of Pelosi’s visit and a mockery of China’s position, and a categorically rejecting the visit.

A Chinese diplomat said his country’s citizens suffer from “bullying and provocation” and thanked everyone who defended them.
