Sending the wrong command caused the antenna on the spacecraft to point two degrees from Earth, preventing data from being sent or received from the spacecraft.

A series of orders sent to him on July 21 are said to be at issue.

A reset of the probe’s positioning, however, is scheduled for October 15, which should restore contact with Earth by pointing its antenna in the right direction once more.

“The mission team believes that Voyager 2 will remain on its planned trajectory in the meantime,” NASA said in a statement.

The Voyager 2 probe, like the Voyager 1 probe, was launched in 1977 to explore regions of space where no other spacecraft had gone before.

Voyager 2 reached interstellar space in November 2018, meaning it reached a region between two stars.
