With great pride from the Juan N. Corpas University Foundation we share the admission to the National Academy of Medicine of our graduate, Dr. William Omar Contreras López, Class of 2000. This appointment took place on May 4 at the César Auditorium Augusto Pantoja of the National Academy of Medicine, where he presented his work: “Intrauterine correction of myelomeningocele by fetoscopy: first cohort in Colombia”.
The event was attended by our Rector, Dr. Ana María Piñeros Ricardo, as a special guest of our graduate, in celebration of his admission to the National Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Contreras has been recognized as a leading researcher nationally and internationally in the field of neurosurgery, where his research is related to Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, spinal surgery, among others.
The National Academy of Medicine is a scientific institution whose mission is to contribute to the study and progress of medicine, medical education and research, sponsor the advancement of related sciences and complementary technologies, and promote ethics, good practice professional and humanistic development of the doctor, as well as fulfill the purpose of strengthening the unity of the medical body, within the free exercise of the profession.
Currently, Dr. William Omar Contreras is the president of the Colombia chapter of the International Neuromodulation Society (International Neuromodulation Society) and Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga (UNAB) and Simón Bolívar University.
