National Institute of Legal Medicine: Clarification on Misleading Social Media Videos and Images

The National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences issued a clarifying statement this Friday, July 7, in relation to some videos and images that circulate on social networks and in which the corpses of Rafael Julio Vega Cuello and his sons Ray Jesús and Ronald Iván Vega Daza, victims of a criminal attack that occurred last Thursday, June 29, in the Villa Campestre sector, in Puerto Colombia.

In this regard, the entity points out that “the images that are circulating through social networks and the media do not correspond to any forensic practice carried out at the entity’s facilities in Barranquilla.”

Similarly, the document states that the General Directorate, the North Regional Directorate and the Atlantic Sectional Directorate contacted the General Prosecutor’s Office to hold a meeting with the next of kin of the victims in the company of an investigative entity. “After the explanation of the institutional procedures, a tour of the headquarters facilities was given in order to carry out the respective verification by the participants. Once the visit was over, the relatives expressed their apologies and stated that they intended to issue a clarifying statement.

The latter in relation to a message that also spread through social networks from Meili Daza Curvelo, wife and mother of the three deceased, who launched a claim to the Institute of Legal Medicine for disseminating the images of the necropsy procedure.
