NATO spokesman Bauer announced the refusal of the alliance to comply with the agreement with Russia

The agreement concluded in 1997 between Russia and NATO will no longer “restrain” the actions of the alliance. This was announced by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Rob Bauer.

“At the moment, the general opinion at the political level is that we are not killing the agreement, but it will not stop us from taking necessary actions on our part,” he said.

The importance of returning to the fundamental act of 1997 was previously stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In particular, the West should abandon the construction of military facilities on the territory of the states of the former Soviet Union.

One of the main points of the agreement was also NATO’s refusal to deploy nuclear weapons of countries that would later join the alliance. Both Russia and the North Atlantic bloc agreed not to accumulate significant amounts of weapons on the borders.

Previously, Rob Bauer called the strengthening of NATO near the Russian borders main result conducting a special operation in Ukraine. He promised that the members of the bloc would continue to supply Kyiv with “everything necessary for survival.”
