Navistar launches the S13 with SCR technology

Navistar has started the commercialization of the S13 powertrain available in the International HX series. Developed with Traton, its parent company, the S13 engine is Navistar’s first engine designed with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology.

“The S13 is the most advanced powertrain we’ve ever produced and the lightest professional powertrain available on the market,” said Mark Stasell, vice president, Vocational Truck Business.

The S13 integrated powertrain aftertreatment system, combined with the engine’s combustion strategy, significantly reduces the need for active and parked regenerations.

The 13L International S13 engine achieves advanced fuel efficiency and performance through a clean combustion strategy and reduced friction and pumping losses, Navistar said in a statement.

The absence of an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler allows almost 100% of the exhaust gases to flow to the fixed geometry turbocharger, resulting in more power and better engine performance.

Additionally, the low-rpm, high-torque engine results in less fuel injection and fuel consumption, delivering up to 515 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque.

The S13 powertrain has already been introduced on the international LT and RH series models.
