Man poisons family through their door – baby loses hair
A former chemistry student has been arrested and charged with assault and aggravated stalking after injecting a substance into his neighbors’ home.

For over a year he had been bothered by everyday noises from their apartment.
The substance caused headaches in the family and their baby developed hair loss, coughing fits and vomiting.
A former chemistry student in Tampa, Florida was charged with because he has a substance under the apartment door splashed through his neighbors’ apartment.
For over a year, Xuming Li had been bothered by noises from his neighbor Umar Abdullah’s home. Everyday noises such as the noise of the vacuum cleaner and the closing of the toilet lid or drawers were too loud for him. The fact that Abdullah and his wife had a baby shortly after they moved in and it cried didn’t bother him.
Baby got hair loss, coughing fits and vomiting
After a year of noise complaints, the neighborhood dispute took a new turn. Almost weekly, Abdullah’s family noticed a strong odor in their home that made it difficult for them to breathe, irritated her eyes and caused severe headaches, as Abdullah told the New York Times. After a while, the smell also triggered hair loss, coughing fits and vomiting in their newborn daughter.
Whenever the smell occurred, the family rushed to open all the windows, and they initially believed that the cause of the smell was a broken appliance in their home. However, technicians could not find any defects. Firefighters and a hazardous materials team were also called, but the source of the odor remained a mystery.
Li charged with assault and aggravated stalking
Since the smell was strongest around the front door, Abdullah finally installed a surveillance camera in front of it. This recorded on June 27 a man – who appears to be his neighbor Li – approaching the door with a vial and syringe in his hand. He crouches on the floor and appears to inject the contents of the syringe through a small crack in the corner of the door.
Tests revealed that the substance was methadone and hydrocodone – both opioids. The samples are still being examined.
Li was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, assault and aggravated stalking. He pleaded not guilty, according to Hillsborough County court documents. He was released on bail two days later and is due to appear in court in December. In a brief telephone interview with the New York Times, his lawyer says: “All the facts will come to light in due course.”
