The Venezuelan Movement for the Recall (Mover) rejected this Saturday the announcement of the National Electoral Council (CNE) on the day to collect signatures in the country and activate the recall referendum against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
Due to the conditions of the CNE, Nelson Chitty La Roche, a member of the Mover board, commented to scoop that “it is not feasible to comply in any case”, when citing one of the rectors of the electoral power, Roberto Picon.
Among the CNE measures issued this Friday night, it was established that next Wednesday each state must obtain 20% of the electoral registry.
Chitty La Roche explained that the process would require the participation of five citizens per minute, that is, “twelve seconds to put their hand, register the mechanism, and also sign”, for which he considers that it is not viable.
“We feel that in the best of cases this is an error on the part of the CNE, which makes it impossible to activate the recall referendum,” said the professor at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).
He compared Venezuela with other countries such as Mexico, which only requires 3% of the voters and gives 45 days to consign the signatures or Switzerland, which has a period of six months for the promoters to deliver that task.
He emphasized that this CNE measure “is a trap and makes it impossible to activate the recall referendum.”

Faced with this situation, from Mover they carry out legal analyzes with the instruments provided by law to deal with this “outburst”. They aspire on Monday to advance along the lines of opposing the CNE’s actions.
He stressed that “the CNE instead of favoring, helping and assisting to comply with the constitution, hinders it, prevents it, enervates it, and of course, this seriously compromises the institutional progress, governance and governability of the country” .
