NEOS as a positive future force in Vienna and Austria

Vienna (OTS) The NEOS general meeting in the Ankerbrot factory in Favoriten on Saturday morning was all about the motto “Happiness in the future”.

NEOS federal chairwoman Beate Meinl-Reisinger emphasized right at the beginning that NEOS is the force of the future, especially in turbulent times: “We make a promise of meaning – full of courage, with forward-thinking, we want the people in Austria to be able to do so again through their own strength to build something for yourself. We stand for the chance to live a free and self-determined life – and that’s precisely why we fight for the best education for every child!”

In his speech, NEOS Vienna regional spokesman Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr also addressed the sham domestic political debates of the last few months: “Cash in the constitution, who is normal and who is not, poor children should eat burgers – all unspeakable debates and diversionary tactics. We NEOS stand for recognizing problems, addressing them and then looking for solutions – that’s what people rightly expect from politics! We also stand for clean politics – and I have absolutely no sympathy for allotment deals or black mayors who amass fortunes through rezoning!”

In Vienna there will soon be a code of conduct for politicians, said Wiederkehr. “That’s important – although I think it’s a shame that we need something like that because individuals lack a personal moral compass.”

Wiederkehr is concerned about the pro-Hamas sentiment at demonstrations in Vienna after the cruel Hamas attack on Israel: “My position is clear: There is no justification for this treacherous attack with so many deaths. Anyone who condones terrorism at demonstrations or via social networks or calls for further acts of violence has no place in Vienna!”

Wiederkehr also emphasized that NEOS stands for an honest integration debate. “We have a lot of offers in Vienna. But we need more commitment. Vienna, as a growing, cosmopolitan metropolis, needs immigration. But we expect everyone who comes to us to learn our language, to have a job if possible and to commit to our values and our democracy.”

During the course of the day, the NEOS members will vote on a motion that provides for more binding measures in integration policy. The program also includes an application about accessibility in public spaces.
