Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi and Chinese world champion Ding Liren played a draw at the Grand Chess Tour tournament in Bucharest.

The recent rivals in the title match met in the third round of the tournament, which is held in a round-robin system with the participation of ten chess players.

Nepomniachtchi played with white pieces, the game ended on the 54th move.

In the first three rounds, Nepomniachtchi drew twice (again with the Hungarian Richard Rapport) and won once (against the Romanian Bogdan-Daniel Diak). Ding Liren ended all three games in a draw.

The prize fund of the tournament is $350,000.

Nepomniachtchi lost his sleep pills before losing his title match

On April 30, Nepomniachtchi lost the championship match to Ding Liren in Astana.

After 14 games, the score was a draw, and in the tie-break, the Chinese was able to win the fourth game with black pieces.

Nepomniachtchi tried twice to win the chess crown, in 2021 he lost in eleven games to the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.
