Nermin Kashif: My project stems from my passion for “skulls”

Dialogue: Maha Adel
Nermin Kashif is a young artistic talent who chose to volunteer her talent in drawing and design to transform what some might see as ugly into a rare and beautiful piece of art. The project stems from her passion for the shape of skulls, which raises within them questions about the beauty and accuracy of the structure of the human body.

She specializes in designing and casting sculptures in the form of skulls, sculpting them in a creative manner and adding artistic touches and cheerful colors to these sculptures to give them a beautiful artistic form that combines the symbol of the yard, the joy of life and its colors in one piece of art that impresses, and she shares her artwork on the project’s page in “Instagram”. To learn more about her vision and talent and why she chose this type of art in particular, the following dialogue took place.

Nermin Kashif says: “I have loved drawing since my childhood and I was talented in transferring and imitating the shape of cartoon characters by looking at them and then drawing them. Also, my mother and my teachers in the school noticed the extent to which I was able to choose harmonious colors and color accurately, and my artistic sense of combining colors. The arts class was my favourite, and over the past ten years I worked with the country’s largest male and female artists in various artistic fields, which encouraged me to take the decision to satisfy my passion that never left me and launched my project.”

She added: “I taught myself and my personal experience and practice served me in mastering the art of sculpture, and relied on my passion and determination to experiment and try. Art surrounds us everywhere, and the owner of true talent can pick it up and convey it with his own vision of the world around him.” I do not find this strange or new, as humans have practiced art since the dawn of history with little experience of materials, techniques or theories. There are also luminous models who are considered role models and signs in the world of arts who have followed their passion and ability to self-educate to reach people. Vincent Van Gogh is considered one of the most influential artists in the modern era, and he was one of the artists who taught themselves, he did not receive an academic artistic education at all, and did not He was a fan of school classes, but he succeeded in developing his abilities and excelled in his field.”

She continued, “I was fascinated by the shape of the skulls and their wonderful composition, which makes one wonder and think about how wonderful and delicate the structure of the human body is. Despite our outward differences, we ultimately have a delicate skeleton of nearly the same detail that develops and takes shape as we age. The shape of the skull means many meanings to me, such as life, courage, and the formative miraculousness of the miracle of creation. I also give it an aesthetic touch by mixing colors and adding flowers and colorful drawings so that the world can see the beauty that I see in the skulls through my own view of them, to make these artistic sculptures with plaster and cement.”

Regarding the message carried by her artwork and the colors used in it, Kashif says: “My message is to highlight the beauty in something that many people may consider ugly, and to work to nullify those myths associated with pessimism and unfounded intimidation. I believe that myth is a magical world that is as fun as a fairy tale that fuels your imagination, but you shouldn’t believe everything we hear. I make sure to use acrylic colors to harmonize with the materials I use in my work. I draw inspiration and color from my artwork from nature, animals, world events, personal experiences, memories and even everyday conversations. Every idea imposes its colors on the artwork. My favorite colors are green, purple and black.”

And about her ambition for the future, she says: “I hope to reach the world with my art and creativity and to go through different experiences, such as using new types of colors and materials, and various other media such as wax, for example, the options are endless.”
