Israeli Channel 13 said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested the remobilization of reserve soldiers in order to prepare for the military invasion in Rafah.

Netanyahu has not yet announced the features of the plan to invade the Palestinian city of Rafah on the border with Egypt, nor its duration, but specialists in the conflict file expect the operation to continue for a year.

On Friday, Netanyahu ordered the army to prepare to evacuate Rafah; In preparation for launching a military operation in the city, where more than a million residents and those displaced from the north and center of the Gaza Strip are gathered, he said in a statement issued by his office regarding its goal: “The goals of the war cannot be achieved by eliminating Hamas and leaving 4 Hamas battalions in Rafah.”

News of the invasion plans came on the heels of a week of increasing public friction between Netanyahu and the administration of US President Joe Biden.

Israel carries out air strikes in Rafah on an almost daily basis, even following telling civilians in recent weeks to seek shelter there to escape ground fighting in the city of Khan Yunis, just to the north.
